(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:– Post-doc in sensor perception modeling

The position is at the Vehicle Safety Division with extensive collaboration with the Systems and Control Division, and will be in close cooperation with the Mathematical Sciences, and Computer Science and Engineering departments.

In the Vehicle Safety Division we perform research on both human factors and engineering to better understand the safety problem, find solutions, and assess the impact of both problems and solutions on safety. Specifically, within the research area of virtual safety assessment, we work on methodological aspects of prospective (predictive) traffic safety assessment of technologies and driver behavior. This post-doc position will focus on improving efficiency and accuracy of these virtual safety assessments.

In the Systems and Control Division, department of Electrical Engineering, we are working on modeling and numerical optimization of problems in the areas of robotics, electromobility and autonomous driving. Also in this context, the post-doc focus is on efficient simulations.

In automated driving, perception systems are crucial for perceiving surroundings, localizing vehicles, and facilitating path planning and decision-making processes, which are essential for vehicle control. Perception technology must accurately detect traffic scenarios and, depending on the application, predict the behaviour of other road users. Perceiving them timely and accurately is a main challenge in automated driving, and addressing this challenge requires a considerable amount of research.

This research project is on the domain of sensor perception modeling, within the application areas of virtual safety assessment of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving systems (ADS). The focus of the post-doc is on developing open-source, transparent, and computationally efficient perception models in the application areas. The work will also include integration of the perception models into the prediction module for optimal, model-based, stochastic control in ADS. Sensitivity analyses on how these models trade accuracy, complexity and computational efficiency in virtual safety assessment simulations and in model predictive control for ADS is also part of the project.

Postdoc  summary/title:– Post-doc position on modelling of impaired micromobility riding

You will be devoted to micromobility research and specifically to running experiments, performing data analysis, and writing up results about intoxicated riding. We foresee large experiments with a motion analysis system, where intoxicated (and not intoxicated) participants will ride bicycles and e-scooters and perform different avoidance maneuvers. These experiments will be the basis to gather data for modeling road user behaviour and devise predictive models that may help machines understand human behaviour and prevent intoxicated riders to cause harm to themselves or other road users. Supervision and co-supervision of master and PhD students will also be part of your responsibilities. A small amount of teaching is also envisioned. Presenting research results in oral and written form is fundamental for this position to make sure results from the experiments are properly disseminated. Finally, you will also support writing new research grants on micromobility and intoxicated riding for different national and international sponsors.

Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoc position in Urban Analytics with focus on big mobility data

The project ‘FlowSense: High-Resolution Empirical Traffic Flow Data for Research and Decision Making’ aims to produce empirical data of vehicle and pedestrian flows with high spatial and temporal resolution and extensive coverage, using reproducible methods, based on mobile phone GPS location data. Empirical data on traffic flows are instrumental for research and to support decision-making in diverse domains, including transport planning, urban logistics, urban mobility, urban design and planning. The application of the data will be demonstrated in relevant transport and urban planning use cases, e.g. congestion, traffic safety, pedestrian exposure to noise, usage of public space. The database and the applications will support data driven decision-making in planning practice, overcoming existing limitations of traffic flow data.

The work will be carried out at the Division of Urban Design and Planning. You will work in a stimulating research environment with senior researchers, other post-docs and PhDs, affiliated with the research areas Local-Regional Transformations and Spatial Morphology, conducting research in the fields of urban analytics, sustainable mobility, spatial decision support systems, and urban morphology.

(16) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoc in Software Engineering – Human-AI Interaction

A key aspect of human-AI interaction, which is neglected when designing AI systems, is the human decision-makers. In essence, the human’s perception of the communication received from the AI is core to this interaction. AI systems that are developed to bridge the gap between AI and humans, where humans are the consumers of AI system predictions, are intended to improve the quality of decisions. However, humans often make less than optional decisions since they are distorted by their cognitive biases, thus AI systems can reinforce biases or improve the way humans think about a situation. Thus, we argue that it is natural to use the dual-process theory as a lens to understand human cognition when designing AI systems that are intended to augment human intelligence.

In this project we seek to augment human intelligence by not only develop effective explanation techniques, but also by identifying ways to increase humans cognitive motivation for engaging analytically with the explanations from an AI system when designing AI systems that are intended to augment human intelligence.

Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoc position within WWSC: enzymatic functionalization of wood

In this WWSC project, our goal is to discover enzymes that can be used for tailoring and functionalization of wood polymers and wood-derived molecules. By applying characterization methodology of both the structure and the chemistry of the wood-derived streams, we can both identify how the enzyme act on the wood and understand their application potential.
