Postdoc summary/title:–Research Associate for the Project “Welfare State Responses to Social Risks in Times of Climate Change”
The international collaborative project Welfare State Responses to Social Risks in Times of Climate Change (WELRISCC), funded by CHANSE, investigates how European welfare states address new social risks. In this, it adopts a broad cross-country comparative framework and examines how 16 European welfare states respond to social risks associated with climate change. The project assembles six PIs and eight cooperation partners all across Europe. It is led by Katharina Zimmermann. The advertised position is for a research associate who will work with her on the project and will be responsible in supporting the scientific project management of the international collaborative group. Postdoc summary/title:–Research Associate for the Project “Heat-induced condensates in translation control ” im Landesforschungs-verbund BIKON – Formation, dynamics and function of biomolecular condensates
The position to be filled is for research on temperature-induced changes in translation and the formation of biomolecular condensates that contain nucleic acids and proteins. The project is part of a joint project on biomolecular condensates funded by the state of Hamburg (LFF BIKON) and aims to identify the intracellular changes, which occur in plant cells challenged with increasing temperatures, at high resolution. The focus will be on heat-induced biomolecular condensates that help to protect non-translating mRNAs and proteins from degradation during heat stress. We have identified translation factors that are essential for an efficient translation process and are able to form condensates in vivo and in vitro. In this project we aim at elucidating their dynamic distribution in heat-induced condensates and translating ribosomes. In order to determine the relative position of these cellular structures at high resolution, we will use Cryo-ET und SR-Cryo-FM. Our research will help to understand the complex regulation of translation during stress conditions and how translation of stress-relevant transcripts can be achieved while general translation is inhibited. The results of this project will contribute to our understanding of how plants may act in a changing climate.
