We have an opening for a post-doctoral fellow wishing to join a multidisciplinary project aimed to understand the role of lipid mediators and inflammatory cytokines in lung disease. The goal is to define mechanisms of relevance to asthma that ultimately may become novel targets for future treatments. We are seeking a motivated and ambitious immunologist to join our team of highly based at the Centre for Infectious Medicine (CIM). We have an opening for an individual wishing to join a multidisciplinary team aimed to understand the biochemical dysregulations that drive the development of asthma. Towards that end, the successful applicant will take the lead in analyzing multiple projects that involve integrating metabolomics and lipidomics data with other omics (e.g., proteomics, transcriptomics) as well as clinical phenotyping data. The primary challenge will be to identify the key molecular drivers of the different sub-types of asthma. The overarching aim is to use the findings to develop diagnostic tests for identifying molecular sub-phenotypes of asthma in order to optimize patient treatment.

The Reinius’ laboratory at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics conducts research on how our cells handle imbalances in chromosome- and gene-copy numbers, such as the differences in number of X chromosome copies between male (XY) and female (XX) cells and copy number variation common in cancer cells. We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with deep knowledge and experience in bioinformatic analyses, preferably with documented experience in allele-specific analysis of NGS data from single-cell RNA-seq and single-cell ATAC-seq. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to conduct research on cardiometabolic health and dementia using longitudinal cohort data from several sources, including biomarker and genetic data and data from healthcare registers. We have an opening for an individual wishing to join us in further developing our spatial biology workflows. The successful candidate will be expected to advance our recently established DESI-MRM mass spectrometry imaging method (see PMID:39460704). Applicants will also be involved in development of our multi-modal imaging workflow coupling DESI-MRM with spatial transcriptomics to map spatial dysregulation in metabolism. Spatial analyses will be performed in multiple model systems including ex vivo human lung tissue and in vivo animal models using both rodent as well as zebra fish-based models. These efforts will include imaging metabolic responses to specific challenges including pro-inflammatory exposures (e.g., T1 and T2 cytokines) as well as environmental chemicals of concern (e.g., PFAS, microplastics) followed by spatial transcriptomics to identify the immune cell niches associated with the formation of specific metabolites. Results will be integrated using in-house software developed in collaboration with the Spatial Biology platforms at the Science for Life Laboratory.

A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the laboratory of Carl M. Sellgren at the department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Karolinska Institutet. The group focuses on identifying mechanisms that govern neurodevelopmental processes in health and disease. The models are based on induced pluripotent stem cells collected from patients in the clinic which are then used to generate 2D neural cells and 3D brain organoids. We study both genetic and environmental risk factors and apply different molecular biology techniques and single cell omics for characterizations. The group also consists of a clinical unit (part of the Karolinska Schizophrenia Project) that performs skin biopsies for generation of induced pluripotent stem cells as well as collection of tissue and brain imaging for in vivo validations. We are involved in several international collaborations and are funded by several agencies.

We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to strengthen our research team. The postdoctoral work will focus on long-term clinical outcomes in persons with immune-mediated inflammatory disease in rheumatology and neurology (primarily rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis) using high quality prospectively-collected data on treatment outcomes from electronic medical records and national registries. Our goal is to evaluate the risk of disease worsening and treatment-related adverse events in relation to patient characteristics, including pre-disease (prodromal) markers, comorbidity, imaging, biomarkers, and disease/modifying therapy exposure, integrating advanced machine learning techniques with traditional clinical epidemiology.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work with an international research team to design and conduct research relevant to the group’s agenda while receiving advanced training to enhance professional skills and research independence. The Postdoc’s time will be devoted to analysis, manuscript preparation and career development. The candidate will be asked to collaborate with others, including graduate students, and provide her/his expertise in team projects. There are no teaching requirements, but opportunities to teach can be facilitated.

We are looking for an outstanding, enthusiastic postdoc with strong molecular and laboratory skills who wants to work at the intersection of immunology and cancer/hematology research. The aim is to generate novel knowledge about MDS biology, explore the antigen profile upon stem cell mutation and associate these findings with emerging anti-cancer therapies, particularly towards targeted immunotherapies. The postdoc candidate is also expected to be instrumental in the elaboration of hypotheses and designs to facilitate the translation of the work into new clinical initiatives.

Passion for science and desire to work hard for its progress are the main requirements. The candidates applying for this project must have a PhD degree in biomedicine, immunology, cell biology or a related discipline. Knowledge of immunology and experience with some of the relevant experimental approaches (e.g. flow cytometry, mouse work, molecular biology techniques, scRNA-seq and bioinformatical analysis of scRNA-seq datasets) are beneficial. Applicants must have good English skills, good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively and work productively in a team.   

The work will be conducted in the Cancer proteomics Mass spectrometry (MS) research group headed by Professor Janne Lehtiö at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). Karolinska Institutet is one of the four founding universities for SciLifeLab which is today a national infrastructure and research center in technology driven life sciences. Lehtiö group is a translational group of scientists with a drive to improve human proteome analysis by developing and using new proteomics methods that can be applied to improve personalized cancer treatment. We now need to strengthen our leukemia sub-group with a postdoc within the field of cell and molecular biology and leukemia research. The selected postdoctoral candidate will work on elucidating SLE pathogenesis and on validation of novel diagnostic biomarkers and will be supervised by Associate Professor Ioannis Parodis. The main focus of the successful candidate will be to validate the novel SLE-associated autoantigens recently identified by the group, and tasks include development of serological assays, preforming IHC and IF staining.

A postdoctoral position is now open within an ERC-funded project. Your aim will be to unravel mechanisms and gene regulatory programs that determine cell identities within the regenerating ENS. You will explore which enteric glia cells that are amenable to differentiate into neurons and determine which neuron types can be formed in adult system. The recruited postdoctoral fellow is expected to play a leading role in experimental design, experimentation, analysis, as well as presentation/publication of results. You will perform computational analysis of transcriptomes or work closely with a collaborating bioinformatician.

Embedded in our multidisciplinary team, you will design, conduct, analyze, and disseminate research on the role of pericytes as well as oxidative & nitrosative stressors in disrupted cellular signaling between endothelium and neuroglia in schizophrenia.
You will leverage induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) to establish/refine suitable models of neurovascular cells, studying them with techniques ranging from imaging, to qPCR, to metabolomics – including also validation against clinical samples. You will be expected to present your findings to the scientific community in publications and at conferences, to supervise junior students, and to contribute to administrative tasks, including research grant proposals.

The prospective postdoc will join Dr. Amir Ata Saei’s group. This multidisciplinary team has a solid background in proteomics, bioinformatics, and biochemistry and is focused on employing unique and advanced proteomics techniques to study oncometabolite-protein interactions in cancer. The overarching aim is to identify metabolic vulnerabilities and develop therapeutic strategies against cancer. The specific postdoctoral project involves the application of versatile biochemistry, molecular biology, proteomic and other omics techniques, to validate the targets identified for oncometabolites in liver cancer in vitro and in vivo. This will rationalize the development of targeted therapies in the future, within a precision medicine framework. At Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) of Karolinska Institutet (KI), we carry out epidemiologic research in a wide range of medical areas, including cancer, psychiatry, neurological diseases, etc. Our projects aim to increase knowledge about causes of diseases and to translate the knowledge towards clinical application. Biostatistical analysis is of central importance in the interdisciplinary research conducted at MEB. Much of our methodological tools relies on statistical genetics, molecular epidemiology as well as biostatistics.
