The Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC) in partnership with Consortium host NC State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar in Climate Justice to further climate adaptation science and practice in the Southeast and US Caribbean region. The mission of the SE CASC is to help fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and Tribal Nations adapt to a changing climate. The SE CASC focuses on the co-production of actionable science for natural and cultural resource management. The exposures and impacts of climate change are not distributed equally. Climate justice recognizes the disproportionate impact of climate change on marginalized communities. Climate adaptation actions offer the potential to mitigate the ongoing effects of climate change, but the equity of adaptation actions needs to be considered in their planning, funding, implementation, and evaluation.
We seek a Climate Justice Postdoctoral Scholar to study the equity of climate adaptation actions in the SE CASC footprint. Research could include, but is not limited to, studying the equity of climate adaptation planning, funding, implementation, and/or evaluation; barriers to implementation of climate adaptation actions in marginalized communities; or development of effective information and training on using decision-support tools and implementation in diverse communities. The Postdoctoral Scholar will have an opportunity to collaborate with regional and national climate justice leaders and a cohort of SE CASC graduate student fellows and develop activities and initiatives.
Postdoc summary/title:– Post Doctoral Research Scholar – Synthesis
The Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC) in partnership with Consortium host NC State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar in research synthesis to further climate adaptation science and practice in the Southeast and US Caribbean region. The mission of the SE CASC is to help fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and people adapt to a changing climate. The SE CASC focuses on the co-production of actionable science for natural and cultural resource management. Significant research has been geared toward understanding climate change exposures and impacts to wildlife, fish, and ecosystems, resulting in a wealth of data and literature resources. One of the grand challenges is analyzing and synthesizing this research to create products that are usable and used by natural and cultural resource managers to make decisions about climate adaptation.
We seek a Postdoctoral Scholar who is interested in quantitative data analyses and syntheses to facilitate end-user support and who is interested in mentoring groups of SE CASC graduate student fellows through team science synthesis projects. Synthesis could include, but is not limited to, the social and ecological effects ofvariation in water availability (i.e., extreme flow, drought, etc.) on aquatic and/or terrestrial ecosystems; climate-change mediated range shifts or invasive species; or the use of traditional knowledge in climate adaptation for integrated resources management. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be co-mentored by faculty in SE CASC and NCSU working on relevant research topics.
Postdoc summary/title:– Post Doctoral Research Scholar – Bee Research
The Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC) in partnership with Consortium host NC State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to further climate adaptation research and synthesis on invertebrates, focusing on bees. The mission of the SE CASC is to help fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and people adapt to a changing climate. The SE CASC focuses on the co-production of actionable science for natural and cultural resource management. The number of invertebrate species far outpaces the number of vertebrates, with almost 1.3 million invertebrates described. Many perform activities critical to ecosystem functions and services, but invertebrates are often missing in climate adaptation plans for species or habitats.
We seek a Postdoctoral Research Scholar with expertise in the analysis of large monitoring datasets to understand climate impacts on invertebrates, in particular bees. We are particularly interested in applicants with a diversity of quantitative skills to analyze and visualize data but will also consider applicants who have strong taxonomic and natural history expertise in bees and regional threats to specific bee groups to develop management briefs for climate adaptation.

The Sunny Day Flooding Project is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in satellite remote sensing to join a highly interdisciplinary and community-engaged research project. The researcher will use different satellite platforms – including Sentinel-1 (SAR), Sentinel-2 (optical), Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT), and small-satellite imagery (SAR and optical) – to analyze and monitor floods in coastal regions that occur outside of extreme storms like hurricanes.
The primary goal of this research is to evaluate and enhance the accuracy and reliability of satellite observations for detecting shallow, hyperlocal flooding and to validate these observations with in-situ data and models. The researcher will work closely with Dr. Katherine Anarde (Coastal Engineering, NCSU) to analyze flood sensor data and with Dr. Chao Wang and Dr. Tamlin Pavelsky (Hydrology Remote Sensing, UNC-Chapel Hill) to perform comprehensive analyses of satellite data.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant and diverse research group across multiple universities dedicated to advancing our understanding of chronic flood hazards and contributing to climate adaptation strategies through innovative remote sensing approaches.
