Postdoc  summary/title:– Research Fellow in Global Mental Health Implementation Science

The Department of Global Health and Social Medicine seeks a postdoctoral fellow to support the scientific and research activities for multiple studies focused on leveraging innovative digital technologies for scaling up proven psychosocial interventions across different settings globally, including a specific emphasis on underserved settings in the United States. A key focus of these different research studies involves evaluating the implementation of mental health services in primary care settings and other community settings in the United States. For example, one project one project involves training non-specialists, including community health workers and lay persons, across underserved settings in Texas to build workforce capacity towards bridging the care gap for mental disorders. Another project, also based in Texas, seeks to develop a brief single-session intervention focused on assessing and addressing the psychological distress associated with traumatic events (such as natural disasters, climate change, interpersonal violence), adapted to the local context and designed for training community members and lay persons in vulnerable communities .

These studies involve collaboration across Harvard Medical School and engaging project collaborators across multiple institutions in the United States. This postdoctoral fellowship involves considerable fieldwork, collaborating and liaising with project partners and funders. While based at Harvard Medical School in Boston, this position requires frequent travel and visits to research sites in Texas.

The contributions to scientific knowledge include expanding the global mental health implementation science literature, promoting equitable access to effective mental health services in underserved communities of the United States, advancing task sharing efforts in low-resource settings with emphasis on improving functional outcomes for individuals living with severe mental illness, and assessing the costs of using digital tools to support integration of evidence-based psychosocial interventions in primary care and community-based settings. This position focuses heavily on developing skills in global mental health research, health equity, digital health, and implementation science so that the Fellow will be positioned to lead independent studies at the conclusion of this position.

Postdoc  summary/title:– Postdoctoral Fellow: Rubin Lab: skeletal muscle project

The Rubin laboratory in the Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology at Harvard University is focused on studying complex molecular pathways underlying different disease states, especially late onset neurodegenerative disorders and neuromuscular diseases, with a goal of identifying novel therapeutic avenues. In our skeletal muscle projects, our studies evaluate whether, or not defects in satellite cells may contribute to neuromuscular diseases. Our research combines the use of primary patient-derived cells (iPSCs, myogenic progenitors), genetic mouse models, and phenotypic drug screening methods. In addition, we are examining severe muscle damage that results in a less efficient regenerative process. We use a combination of human and mouse in vivo and in vitro studies to carry out chemical screening and transcriptional profiling analyses to evaluate potential therapeutics related to targeting satellite cells.

A Postdoctoral position is now available for individuals with a background in skeletal muscle regeneration and satellite cell biology. Studies will range from muscle functional assays (quantification of muscle force), isolation and culture of satellite cells, and the mechanistic study of pathways required to confer satellite cell regenerative capacity.

About Harvard University, United Sates – Official Website

Harvard University is a private Ivy League research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Established in 1636 and named for its first benefactor, clergyman John Harvard, Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States and among the most prestigious in the world.

The Massachusetts colonial legislature, the General Court, authorized Harvard’s founding. In its early years, Harvard College primarily trained Congregational and Unitarian clergy, although it has never been formally affiliated with any denomination. Its curriculum and student body were gradually secularized during the 18th century, and by the 19th century, Harvard had emerged as the central cultural establishment among the Boston elite. Following the American Civil War, President Charles William Eliot’s long tenure (1869–1909) transformed the college and affiliated professional schools into a modern research university; Harvard became a founding member of the Association of American Universities in 1900. James B. Conant led the university through the Great Depression and World War II; he liberalized admissions after the war.

The university is composed of ten academic faculties plus the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. Arts and Sciences offers study in a wide range of academic disciplines for undergraduates and for graduates, while the other faculties offer only graduate degrees, mostly professional. Harvard has three main campuses: the 209-acre (85 ha) Cambridge campus centered on Harvard Yard; an adjoining campus immediately across the Charles River in the Allston neighborhood of Boston; and the medical campus in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area. Harvard’s endowment is valued at $41.9 billion, making it the largest of any academic institution. Endowment income helps enable the undergraduate college to admit students regardless of financial need and provide generous financial aid with no loans.[ The Harvard Library is the world’s largest academic library system, comprising 79 individual libraries holding about 20.4 million items.
