(01) Fully Funded PhD Position
PhD position summary/title:– PhD candidate to investigate the Impact of Consumer Flexibility on planning of multi-energy districts
You are a highly motivated and dedicated candidate with an MSc degree in Energy, Mechanical, Chemical-, Environmental or Electrical engineering (or related field such as energy economics). You should have a profound and interdisciplinary knowledge on ongoing energy transition topics particularly multi-energy systems, energy conversion and storage technologies. Moreover, you have strong programming, modelling and data analysis skills in Python and/or R. Experience with the formulation and implementation of mathematical optimization problems can give you a competitive edge. The candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Finally, you have not lived for more than 12 months out of previous 36 months in Switzerland.
PhD position summary/title:– PhD on Occupant-centric flexibility quantification and dispatch
You are a highly motivated and dedicated candidate with an MSc in Energy, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering (or related field). You are actively interested in the ongoing energy transition and in developing automation solutions to help make it a reality. Strong programming, modeling, and data analysis skills in Python support you in contributing to our ongoing software development efforts. Your spoken and written English skills help you navigate our international environment. You have not lived more than 12 months out of the previous 36 months in Switzerland.
PhD position summary/title:– PhD position on guiding and confining mechanical wave energy in 3D chiral metamaterials
Applications are invited from suitable qualified candidates for a full time, 36 months fixed-term position, as a Doctoral Candidate (DC) on the MetacMed Doctoral Network at Empa.
This position is DC09, which is one of 12 DCs being recruited as a part of a European-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network (DN) on Acoustic and mechanical metamaterials for biomedical and energy harvesting applications– ‘MetacMed’.
The successful applicant will be enrolled on a PhD programme at ETH Zürich, and will work on the topic of “Guiding and confining wave energy in 3D chiral metamaterials” under the supervision of Dr. Andrea Bergamini, Empa, Laboratory for Acoustics/Noise Control and under the academic supervision of Prof. Dr. Dennis Kochmann, ETH-Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering. Secondments at Amazement, Warsaw (PL), 4 months, and CNRS Lille (FR), 4 months, are foreseen for this position.
PhD position summary/title:– PhD Position in the field of elastomer-based sensors and actuators with piezoelectric ceramic fillers
You have a master in chemistry, materials science, mechanical engineering, robotic or a similar field. Previous experience with one or more of the following topics is required: Synthesis of ceramic material, basics in polymer science, 3D printing of elastomer materials, programming of electronic devices (e.g. Arduino) or piezoelectric characterization. The experimental nature of the work requires a very high level of experimental skills, an analytical mindset for interpreting results, and the ability to design innovative experiments. You are a team player and your strengths include taking personal responsibility, excellence and flexibility to work and deliver results. The candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Knowledge of German is beneficial, but not mandatory.
PhD position summary/title:– PhD position on accelerating discoveries in electrochemical CO2 reduction
We are looking for a candidate with a MSc degree in chemistry, materials science, physics, electrical engineering, or a related discipline. Prior experience in electrochemistry and data science is an advantage. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently in the lab while collaborating effectively with our multidisciplinary team. PhD position summary/title:– PhD position in X-ray based 3D virtual histopathology for studying metastases evolution in colorectal cancer
If you would like to make a major impact on 2D and 3D cancer diagnostic and revolutionize digital pathology, you are highly motivated, communicative and passionate working in an interdisciplinary field and fulfill the following criteria:
Completed Master`s degree in biomedical engineering, physics or similar.
Have strong hands-on lab skills
Have some experience with X-ray methods and/or imaging
Experience in digital image processing and machine learning methods for image processing is a plus
Have preferably some additional experience in the biomedical domain
