(01) Fully Funded PhD Position
PhD position summary/title:–PhD student in Environmental Science, atmospheric aerosol-cloud-precipitation interactions
The interplay between atmospheric liquid or solid aerosol particles and clouds is a key theme in climate research. Aerosol particles originating from various natural and anthropogenic sources act as cloud condensation nuclei or ice nuclei for cloud droplets and ice crystals to form on. Consequently, the human influence on atmospheric aerosol loadings is likely to result in perturbations in the extent and properties of clouds. This effect is still poorly understood. Despite large efforts during past decades, the processes controlling aerosol-cloud interactions and explaining observed changes are not yet fully understood. The microphysical properties and chemical composition of aerosol particles, and their interaction with water vapour and meteorology represent a complex system with multiple simultaneous interactions. It is one of the major challenges of atmospheric science to understand this complex system and use it to improve predictions of future climate.
This PhD project aims to contribute to our understanding of the key processes governing the life cycle of aerosols and clouds, and their close interplay with atmospheric circulation, meteorology, water vapour and chemistry. The successful applicant will develop numerical modelling tools for describing atmospheric aerosol dynamics, chemistry and their links to cloud hydrometeor microphysics. This PhD project will contribute to the improvement of theoretical and numerical models describing aerosol dynamics, cloud microphysics and eventually the climate system by developing, testing and evaluating numerical schemes for models of varying levels of detail, including e.g. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) models and Earth System Models (ESM) along with detailed process models. The project is part of the SIMPLIFY project funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation.

PhD position summary/title:–PhD student in Political Science
The aim of the doctoral programme is to give the student specialised knowledge within the field of political science, a thorough training in research methods, and a good understanding of the problems occurring in research and in the practical application of results. The programme familiarises the student with different structures of society and ideas, and gives a broad orientation of the research development within the subject, with the purpose of making the student a critical and independent researcher with the ability to plan and develop scientific projects. PhD position summary/title:–PhD student in Political Science with an orientation towards International Relations and Comparative Politics
We are offering a PhD position as part of two research projects: “Democracy, Autocracy, and International Cooperation,” funded by the European Research Council (ERC), the Swedish Research Council (VR), and the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, and “Hiding in Plain Sight? International Monitoring Missions in Authoritarian Regimes,” funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR).

SCEWP undertakes research on a broad range of topics in moral and political philosophy. The thesis work will be conducted within this framework. Our previous research has covered humanitarian intervention, compensatory duties after war, the protection of heritage in war, self-defence, moral responsibility, democratic theory and citizens’ responsibilities, rights, risk, accountability for war crimes, refugees and immigration, duties to rescue, legitimate authority, consent, partiality, and commemoration. We aim to reflect the fact that the best work in moral and political philosophy is informed by research across philosophy. We thus welcome applications from researchers from a range of backgrounds (for example, those working on causation, moral responsibility, rights, collective action, philosophy of action, authority) who are interested in bearing this expertise to bear on the ethics of war and peace.

PhD position summary/title:–PhD student in Inorganic Chemistry for Divalent cation inclusion in Prussian blue
Prussian blue analogues, framework compounds with formula AxM[M′(CN)6]y, are interesting materials with a wealth of potential applications. Recently, studies of these materials where A is an alkaline earth metal (e.g. Mg/Ca) indicate promise for the eventual use as positive electrodes in divalent ion batteries. Divalent ion batteries are advantageous over the current Li-ion battery technology by offering potentially higher energy densities and using only abundant elements. However, the understanding of the intercalation mechanism of Ca and Mg into Prussian blue analogues is very limited.
This project will develop the fundamental understanding required to realise the potential of Prussian blue analogues as positive electrodes for divalent-ion batteries. Prussian blue analogues are a popular choice for Na-ion cathodes, with competitive energy densities. Initially, the candidate will explore different routes to synthesising Prussian blue analogues with divalent cations, and characterise their structures. Once a compound with divalent cations has been synthesized, its electrochemical response will be explored. At the end of the project, the candidate will have gained valuable experience in synthesis, material characterisation, and electrochemical measurements.

PhD position summary/title:–PhD student in Sustainable Organic bioelectronics
Organic semiconductors have the potential to increase device sustainability in bioelectronic applications such as short-term disposable sensors for diagnostics, environmental and food monitoring. However, the adoption of organic electronics relies on the discovery of materials combining high performance with easy scale-up production at low costs.
This project explores blends with majority-content insulating polymers to increase the sustainability and impact of organic semiconductors for bioelectronics. The work is highly interdisciplinary, including materials development, characterization, and evaluation as core components in electrochemical transistors. It will address several research challenges, from understanding the complex interplay between materials chemistry and the microstructure of the films to evaluate their performance and stability in electrochemical devices.
The ideal applicant is proactive and equipped with a problem-solving mindset, as well as the ambition to conduct interdisciplinary research within the broad breadth of material chemistry, electrochemistry, and device physics. Candidates with experience in materials science, soft condensed matter, and polymer science are encouraged to apply. The applicant should have good knowledge of English, both oral and written.
