There is a vacant position as a PhD fellow or Postdoctoral Fellow connected to the Centre on the Europeanisation of Norwegian Law (CENTENOL). The research at CENTENOL will develop new knowledge about EEA law and its impact on Norwegian law. The position is linked to the center’s work package on labor law.

PhD position summary/title:– PhD Research Fellows in MSCA doctoral training network about targeting RNA with small molecules
We invite applications for 15 three-year PhD fellowships open to doctoral students recruited internationally. The projects are in fields spanning from molecular microbiology, over molecular and structural biology (using NMR, X-ray crystallography, and cryogenic EM), and computational, organic and medicinal chemistry to assay development, fragment and high-throughput screening.
In recent years it became increasingly evident that RNAs constitute promising macromolecular drug targets for small molecule drugs. By targeting upstream RNA, current undruggable protein-mediated pathways could be effectively modulated thereby opening for innovative therapies that may redefine the treatment strategies for a range of conditions.
The TargetRNA doctoral training network brings together expertise and methods from molecular biology, structural biology, biophysics, computational chemistry, synthetic and medicinal chemistry, and microbiology, all the way up to in vivo models to discover new small molecule RNA ligands for selected targets and to characterize the effects of these RN A ligands on microbes and the microbiome. The network will train the doctoral candidates (DCs) with cutting-edge interdisciplinary skills in the discovery and characterization of RNA ligands and the translation of these discoveries into innovations. Thus, TargetRNA will deliver a cohort of scientists with an interdisciplinary mind and skill set who are keen and able to push RNA-targeted drug discovery forward. Furthermore, TargetRNA will train the DCs also more broadly within structural biology, medicinal chemistry, microbiology and drug discovery, in addition to equipping them with transferable skills like FAIR data principles, and responsible development and sustainable implementation of new innovations. PhD position summary/title:– PhD Research Fellow in Geodynamics and Surface Processes
This PhD project aims to quantify and model the 3D evolution of the southern Andes foreland foldand-thrust belt. The structural style of the foreland fold and thrust belt (FTB) as observed in the external parts of the Andes shows significant along strike variability in width, structural style, and topography that appears linked to pre-existing structure (i.e., the so-called broken foreland and extensional inheritance), to variations in available shale and / or salt decollements, and to variable sediment input. The relative importance of these controls, the consequence for 3D variations in FTB structure, and how the resulting topography controls sediment routing systems are unclear. The main aim of this project is to understand how pre-existing structures, distribution of decollement horizons and climate driven short- and long-term changes in sediment input control the 3D evolving FTB structure and associated sediment routing systems. We will complement the data compiled by DC8 and create a 3D structural and stratigraphic framework for selected cross sections along the Andean foreland (Year 1). We will combine this with high resolution coupled 3D forward tectonic surface process models and test the role of lateral changes in decollement horizon rheology and of temporal variations in erosion and sediment transport on evolving FTB structure (Year 2 and 3).

PhD position summary/title:– PhD Research Fellow in high-resolution sedimentary dynamics of rifts during rapid climate change.
This PhD project aims to investigate the stratigraphic signature of rift basins with respect to the role of short-term (<100 kyr) climate change on syn-rift depositionalsystems orthe coupling between climate-driven changes in surface processes (erosion/sediment supply) and rift deformation. The initial objective is to analyse the sedimentology and stratigraphy of an active rift where it is possible to constrain tectonic and climatic controls at high resolution, and where the sediment source areas are still preserved, such as the Corinth Rift, Greece. The PhD candidate will then simulate the stratigraphic architecture of syn-rift depositional systems using tectonic, climatic and sediment supply parameters derived from the Corinth Rift (Years 1 and 2). This will allow investigation of the roles of high frequency climate change and tectonicsin controlling depositionalsystem and theirstratigraphic evolution of the Corinth Rift, and investigation of feedback between surface processes and tectonics. This approach will then be applied to other well documented rift systems, such as the Gulf of California, or the Suez Rift, Egypt (Year 2 and 3).

(07) Fully Funded PhD Position
PhD position summary/title:– PhD Research Fellow in Geodynamics and Surface Processes.
This PhD project aims to quantify and model the 3D response of active rift evolution to surface processes in the Corinth Rift system. The currently active Corinth Rift is one of the best documented rift systems on Earth with high resolution mapping of both onshore and offshore fault and basin structure constraining its evolution. The rift system localizes deformation in the Gulf of Corinth with earlier rift faults onshore towards the south. However, it is unclear what controls the migration of rift faults in time space and progressive localisation of deformation. Main objectives of this project are to understand how progressive shifting of depocenters towards the present Gulf feedbacks into rift fault formation and migration and how inheritance and surface processes control 3D rift fault growth, linkage, and stratigraphic architecture. We will use the existing high-resolution data base on the tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the Corinth Rift to constrain coupled 3D forward tectonicsurface process models of an actively evolving rift (Years 1 and 2). We will in particular test how the evolving 3D extensional fault network is affected by short and longer-term changes in climate driven erosional efficiency associated erosion of uplifted footwall scarps and short and long-range sediment export (Year 2). The DC will as well use insights into the Corinth Rift basin as an analogue for subsurface data on the N Sea Rift (Year 3).

(08) Fully Funded PhD Position
PhD position summary/title:– PhD Research Fellow in Experimental Particle Physics
The research work is related to the ATLAS experiment at CERN and is to be performed within the ATLAS group at the Department. Currently the group is involved in searches for supersymmetry and other signatures of Dark Matter as well as studies of the CP properties of the Higgs boson. The group focuses on final states containing several tau-leptons. Furthermore, the group takes part in ATLAS upgrade, with participation in the ITk-Pixels project, with responsibilities concerning testing and delivery of pixel modules for the ITk.
The selected candidate is expected to take part in physics analysis of ATLAS data, for instance searching for the Higgs boson in decays to two tau-leptons and a photon or study the Higgs decaying to a Z-boson and a photon, a decay mode that is sensitive to the CP properties of the Higgs. To optimise the signal selection, it is foreseen that selection procedures involving Machine Learning algorithms will play a crucial role. The candidate will also take part in the ITk project, in particular concerning the testing and quality assurance of silicon pixel modules.

PhD position summary/title:– PhD Research Fellow in Organometallic and Homogeneous Catalysis
Ammonia is the most important ingredient in the production of artificial fertilizers and is also a very promising carbon-free energy carrier. Ammonia is produced via the so-called Haber-Bosch process, which requires high temperatures and pressures using hydrogen from natural gas. The research group works to make ammonia production more sustainable and environmentally friendly and develops catalysts and processes for the synthesis of ammonia directly from water and nitrogen. The research fellow’s project is part of this work, and the scholarship holder will, together with other researchers in the project group, design, synthesize, test, and immobilize new catalysts for the conversion of nitrogen and water into ammonia. In general, the research group uses insights and predictions from quantum chemical calculations to design catalysts, and these catalysts are next synthesized and tested in the group’s laboratory. We are looking for a research fellow with the right background and motivation to strengthen the experimental side of the overall project. Specifically, this work will consist of synthesis of novel molecular and immobilized catalysts, followed by evaluation of the performance of the new catalysts using bench-scale reactors. Studies of catalyst regeneration and reuse may also be included.
The successful candidate will be integrated in a team ranging from bachelor’s and master’s students, via PhD students to postdoctoral researchers. The candidate thus has ample opportunity to both receive and give supervision and to develop leadership skills.

PhD position summary/title:– PhD Research Fellow in applied and computational mathematics
The significant presence of minerals, e.g., lithium (Li), in deep geothermal brines, combined with increasing demands of rare minerals, opens for co-production of geothermal energy and minerals. The PhD Research Fellow will in collaboration with the project team develop mathematical models and numerical approaches for compositional reactive transport required to assess the potential of geothermal energy and mineral co-production from deep hydrothermal systems. This includes the modelling of case-studies for co-production of specific minerals. Software development in the project will expand on the open-source software framework PorePy (github.com/pmgbergen/porepy), which already has strong capabilities in modelling of compositional multiphase flow. The project also involves interdisciplinary collaborations with experimental researchers in aqueous geochemistry who will do lab experiments that will provide data for the modelling.
